Our story
Bourchier, a private UK Limited Company, was founded in 2010. It is the outcome of the creative skills and professional experience of its two shareholders, husband and wife team David and Elizabeth Stone.
Elizabeth’s career in the publishing sector has given her strategic management skills and in-depth knowledge across the coalface of publishing. She is currently a non-executive director. David has worldwide experience in executive cultural management and diplomacy, working with governments, cities, arts organizations and foundations. Previously he enjoyed an international career as violinist and conductor.
The name
The name ‘Bourchier’ is a Stone family name. Among the many eminent Bourchiers is John Bourchier Lord Berners (1467–1533), soldier, courtier, gifted linguist and translator. The Bourchier coat of arms is represented in our seal logo. We hope you will find that Bourchier perpetuates John Bourchier’s dedicated skill and commitment to excellence and that we can look forward, with you, to fulfilling our motto: ‘coniunctim bene gerere’ – ‘together we achieve success’.
The company today
The company has grown steadily year on year. We believe that we are unique – in our identification with the specific needs of each different client, in the range of our services, in our specialist expertise, and in our work across many cultures.

This work was commissioned by King Henry VIII and was the first of Bourchier’s highly regarded French to English translations. His linguistic flair is recorded by Sydney Lee (Dictionary of National Biography): ‘Berners has adhered so closely to the English idiom as to give the book the character of an original English work’.
