AI is rapidly evolving. So, we continue to research the potential application to our work. If our AI policy changes in response to new technology, tools and use cases, we will keep our clients informed and consult with them before applying any form of AI to their projects.
Editing
At present our editorial processes are managed solely by human personnel. We recognise that AI may bring time and cost benefits, but, according to our experience to date, AI tools cannot detect or avoid cultural and political bias or linguistic infelicities in ways that human editors can.
Indexing
As of July 2025, professional reports confirm that LLMs typically under-index book-length works, do not provide adequate structure or cross-references, and can insert false information into the index. See, for example, Statement on AI in Indexing – Digital Publications Indexing
Translation & post-editing
To date Bourchier has not encountered an AI translation programme that approaches the quality achieved by our own translators. But in direct response to client demand, we are providing AI translation and post-editing to those publishers who have requested such services. For more information, please refer to our post-editing page in the ‘What we do’ section of this website and the latest post-editing case studies.
