A bespoke design, specially commissioned cartography and artwork, extensive picture research – these were parts of the jigsaw that made up this lavishly illustrated compendium of artefacts unearthed across Britain. This is a unique book in every way. As co-author Richard Havers said, ‘Wow! The book looks ravishing … I hope you are as proud as I am, because you jolly well should be!’
Engaged to see this weighty pictorial volume from delivery to press, Bourchier managed the editing, layout and proof collation of the richly detailed text and over 300 rarely-seen images. Featuring in-depth information on a multitude of different aircraft, RAF stations and operations, and coming in at over 300 pages, this book was handled with meticulous care and attention to ensure we did the author’s hard work justice.
Owing to the successful collaboration between the author and Bourchier, we were subsequently invited to handle the equally impressive follow-up volume, RAF in Camera: The 1960s.
Heritopia: Word Heritage and modernity, published by Manchester University Press for Lund University Press, is an apt demonstration of Bourchier’s ability to adapt to the needs of each publisher. Bourchier were tasked with fulfilling both Manchester and Lund’s requirements and varying style guides. Editors queried where Lund style should take precedence over MUP style, for example over conventions for ‘which’ and ‘that’, single/double quotation marks and in-text use of common abbreviations such as ‘e.g.’ – and, not least, the ordering of index terms in line with the rules for Swedish diacritics!
We work globally for leading publishing houses and university presses. Some call on our full pre-press management package. Others pick and choose individual modules, such as copy-editing, proofreading and design. We work primarily in non-fiction, humanities subjects.
