Working with universities and research institutes

The University of Oxford: A History, by L. W. B. Brockliss (Oxford University Press)

‘This fresh and readable account gives a complete history of the University of Oxford, from its beginnings in the eleventh century to the present day. Written by one of the leading authorities on the history of universities internationally, it traces Oxford’s improbably rise from provincial backwater to one of the world’s leading centers of research and teaching.’ Bourchier’s role was to copy-edit the manuscript, liaising with the author over queries and corrections.

Walled Gardens: Autonomy, Automation, and Art after the Internet, by Cadence Kinsey (British Academy)

On behalf of Oxford University Press, The British Academy called on the Bourchier team to create an intricately designed book that analyses the intersections of art and the Internet since 2008.

Bourchier worked closely with both the author and designer to ensure that all 123 of the visually dense and complex images were set as effectively as possible on the page. With a trim size of 255 x 215 mm, this text broke away from the constraints of standard press templates and, thanks to the skill and imagination of the designer, came vibrantly to life.

Walled Gardens is a perfect example of how Bourchier’s full book production package can transform a text: from disentangling meaning in the editing process, catching extraneous errors during proofreading, efficiently indexing and designing and producing a print-ready file, all with a hands-on project manager guiding the book to publication.

Universities and research institutes

We edit, proof-read and translate for universities and research institutes in the UK and worldwide. For clients without their own publishing arm we also produce books. One of our particular strengths is our close-editing of texts written by non-native English speakers.
